"He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses

and renounces them finds mercy." - Proverbs 28:13

In Luke 15: 11-24, we read of the parable of the lost son. Luke 15:17 says, "When he came to his senses, he said, "How many of my father's hired men have food to SPARE, and here I am starving to death." Let us take special note of the word "when he came to his senses." What volumes they speak! It means, "He came to himself." That is, his mind was restored to him. This is true conviction! There is a difference between having a general sense of sin and a conviction of sin - the former is universal, whereas a true conviction of sin is something very different. Those with only a superficial knowledge of sinfulness of mankind have no true sense of conviction. They are not prepared to humble themselves before God, nor do they feel the necessity to plead with God saying, "Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner." But true conviction is the recognition of one's true spiritual condition, knowing the magnitude of our sin and misery. It is the utter abandonment of self and one's own self righteousness and one's own pretensions and one's own pride before God.

Dear friends, have you any experience of a conviction of sin? Have you realised the magnitude of your sin and its misery? Have you understood what your position is - of guilt, of shame and of death - before the holiness and the justice of God? Only when the prodigal son came to his senses, did he realise that he had sinned. The realization made him to take the first step to get reconciled and restore his lost fellowship with his father. Unless you too have such experience, you cannot draw near to God, call Him as your "Abba" and enjoy His intimate relationship.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray for those who do not have the true conviction of heart. Holy Spirit, convict them of their sin and misery. Let them abandon all pretensions and pride, humble themselves before You and plead for Your mercy to be saved. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
