"You my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are people, and I am

your God'.." - Ezekiel 34:31

A common question asked by many believers, “How can I know if it is God speaking to me when I wait on Him in prayer?” If we, as believers, walk in the Spirit and allow the Holy Spirit to fill us, then it would be easy for us to distinguish whether the voice we hear is of God, the flesh or the devil. It would thus be easy for a Spirit-filled, committed believer to identify God's voice when He speaks. When God speaks, one of the most prevalent signs is a sense of calmness in the spirit. We begin to possess the "peace which passes all understanding." (Philippians 4:7) It is a peace that surrounds us like a fortress and keeps us from being overwhelmed with anxiety, worry and frustration. When this sort of peace comes, then we know for sure that we have heard from God, and we are confident that it is His voice.

Nowhere in the Scripture does God tell us to rush into a decision blindly. There will be times when we have to wait patiently for the Lord. We may have to move swiftly, but not hastily. Whenever God speaks, He has our future in mind, and He will cause us to ask, "If I make this decision, what will be the consequences?"

Dear friends, do we have any difficulty in recognising our earthly father's voice? No! Similarly, if we have an intimate relationship with our Father in Heaven, we will surely know that it is He who speaks to us. Let us be filled with the Holy Spirit and led by Him to recognize the Father's voice.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to wait patiently to hear Your voice and let me not take hasty decisions. Fill me with Your Spirit and help me to have a close walk with You so that I will be able to recognize Your voice easily, and not be deceived by Satan. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
