JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE

Wednesday, June 24 Read: Philippians 2:1-8

"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 2 : 5

Our Lord Jesus is an example of love. Romans 5:8 says, "God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us". Jesus is also an example of meekness. In Matthew 11:29, He said, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart". He is an example of submission and humility.

Though He was in the form of God, He did not count equality with God, but He emptied Himself by taking the form of a servant. He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the death on the Cross - the worst kind of death crucifixion. Jesus is an example of forgiveness. He forgave everyone who were responsible for nailing Him on the Cross - the Roman soldiers, the Jews , the Pharisees, the teachers of the law, Caesar, Pilate, even the thief who mocked at Him! Next, He is an example of suffering. When people hurled insults at Him, He did not retaliate, He suffered in silence. Above all, He is an example of holiness and purity. Hebrews 7:26 says, "He is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens".

Dear friends, we are invited to live the kind of life that Jesus lived. Let us love others with the love of God. Loving those who love us is easy. But if we love our enemies we will be children of our Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:44-46) Let us forgive others. If we forgive men when they sin against us, our heavenly Father will also forgive us. (Matthew 6:14) Let us be humble and submit to one another. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. (I Peter 5:5) Let us be meek. By our meekness we will inherit the land. And let us be holy. God did not call us to be impure but to live a holy life. (I Thessalonians 4:7) May the Holy Spirit transform us in the likeness of Jesus each moment.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, You sent Your Son Jesus to this earth to set an example for me in love, humility, meekness, forgiveness and holiness. Let me know Him more and have an intimate fellowship with Him. Let my life be transformed and let me become more like Him every moment. Amen.
