Thursday, June 25 Read: John 10:11-15

"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the

sheep." - John 10:11

Dr. Andrew Bonar once told this incident - In the Highlands of Scotland, sheep would often wander off among the rocks, and get into places that they could not get out of. The grass on these mountains is very sweet and the sheep like it very much, so they would jump down ten or twelve feet. But they would not be able to climb up. They would bleat in distress and when they saw that no one came to rescue them they would be there for days until they had eaten all the grass. The shepherd would wait until they are so faint that they could not even stand. Then he would put a rope around the sheep and he would pull it up out of the jaws of death. "Why don't you go down there as soon as the sheep gets there?" Dr. Andrew asked one of the shepherds, who replied, "The sheep are so foolish that they would dash right over the precipice, and be killed. So I wait till they become weak, submissive and helpless". This is the way with many of us. When we face problems in life, we take possible measures to overcome them by our efforts. We trust entirely the doctors, lawyers, counsellors and we spend large amounts of money to desperately come out of all our troubles. And at the last resort, when everything fails we give up our pursuit and finally we go to God.

Dear friends, if you are a wanderer, be reminded today that the Good Shepherd will bring you back the moment you have given up trying to save yourself and are willing to let Him save you in His own way. He would never harm you but He is such a gentle Shepherd that He would lovingly lift you up from your problems and give you abundant life. Submit yourself to Him and trust Him.
PRAYER: Loving Lord, I wander aimlessly trying desperately to come out of my troubles. But now I realize that I cannot do so with all my efforts. I submit myself in Your loving hands. Save me according to Your mercy. You are the good Shepherd. Forgive my folly. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
