“The Lord detests all the proud of heart. ...”  - Proverbs 16:5

Naaman was the captain of the Syrian army. He was a man of great honor, courage and reputation, but he had leprosy.  A Jewish girl, who had been taken as a captive and who became a servant for Naaman’s wife, suggested that if Naaman would see Elisha, the prophet of Israel, he would be healed.  So, Naaman, desperate to be healed, took many gifts and went with all his horses and chariots to Elisha’s house.  But Elisha didn’t even come out of his house, or wave his hand upon him and pray.  Instead, he sent his servant to tell Naaman, “Go, wash youself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed.” (II Kings 5:10) Naaman became furious. What an insult!  His pride was hurt.  Besides, he asked him to wash in the muddy Jordan River!  Were there no rivers in Damascus to cleanse him of his leprosy?  As he started to go back, his servants convinced him to just try what the prophet said.  Naaman reluctantly waded into the water and dipped himself.  Each time he emerged out from the water, he examined his skin.  Absolutely no change.  Naaman had the strongest temptation to come out, but he decided to try once more - for the last time.  And when he went down in the water something happened.  With great excitement he emerged out to find his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy. (II Kings 5:14)

Dear friends, are you not experiencing a miracle even after much praying and shedding tears? Perhaps God wants you to die to your pride! He wants you to humble yourself and trust Him absolutely. So do not think of giving up! Confess your pride to God. Draw near Him and enjoy the blessing that He has in store for you.

PRAYER: Loving God, only when Naaman got down from his chariot and in humble obedience waded in the muddy waters of Jordan, only when his pride was totally surrendered, You were able to perform a miracle.  Let not my pride be an obstacle to submit to Your will, and for receiving Your blessing.  Amen.
