Read : Revelation 21:10-14, 19-21

"Nothing impure will ever enter it. ..." - Revelation 21:27

A beautiful swan alighted on the banks of the water in which a crane was wading about seeking snails. For a few moments, the crane viewed the swan in wonder and enquired, "Where do you come from?" "I come from heaven," replied the swan. "Heaven?!" asked the crane puzzled. The swan asked, "Have you never heard of heaven? It is a place where the streets are of gold, and gates and walls are made of precious stones, the river of life is pure as crystal, upon whose banks is the tree whose leaves shall be for healing of the nations!” After hearing so many amazing things about heaven, the crane asked, "Are there any snails there?" "Snails!" repeated the swan. "No. Of course they are not there!" "Then," said the crane as it continued to search along the slimy banks of the pool, "you can have your heaven. I want only snails!"

Dear friends, many of us are like that crane! We read so much of this beautiful place - heaven - from the Bible. We know that the only one criterion should have to enter into this beautiful city is that he should be washed by the blood of Jesus, and his name should be written in the Lamb's book of life.  (Revelation 21:27) We know that nothing impure will ever enter into it. Inspite of knowing all these, we still like to hold on to the "snails" of this world-"snails" of luxury, of wealth, of  gluttony, of cheap entertainments, etc. Let us not forsake 'precious gold’ for 'worthless sand.’ Let us not be deceived. Let us long to enter this beautiful land and dwell with the Lord, who is seated upon the throne forever and ever.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, having heard so much about heaven and its grandeur, help me not to cling to the worthless snails of this world. Let me not only yearn to enter into this beautiful city, but also live a life which would qualify me to come there into Your presence. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
