“Praying men are God’s agents on earth, the representatives of government of heaven, set to a specific task on the earth,” writes E.M. Bounds. But, unfortunately, many Christian men and women do not like to enjoy or accept this great honor which God gives them, as they spend very less time in prayer. If at all they make up their minds to pray for a little longer, they are faced with many hindrances, due to which they lose interest and give up their prayer half-way through.

Oswald J. Smith, writes how he overcame such hindrances.

Firstly, when we pray we get distracted by external agents. Oswald J Smith says that he made his study room the place for his prayer. The first hour of the morning immediately after breakfast was his time of prayer. He mentions, “I have stained the walls of my study with the breath of my prayers.”

Secondly, when we kneel down and start praying, we become drowsy and sooner or later we fall asleep. Oswald J. Smith says, “When I am praying alone, I never kneel, I never stand or sit. I always walk. I have walked hundreds of miles down through the years as I have prayed.”

Thirdly, when we start praying, we lose concentration and we begin to think, plan or worry. Oswald Smith says, “As I walk back and forth, I put my petitions into words. When you walk and pray out loud, you will discover that the time will go by so fast and when you open the eyes and look at the clock, you will discover that you have been praying for half an hour or perhaps even an entire hour. This has been my experience.”

Dear friends, let us follow these suggestions of this saint of God, overcome the hurdles and become prayer warriors!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, as I start praying I get disturbed now and then because of which my prayer life becomes affected badly. Give me Your grace to overcome the hurdles, prevail in prayer and accomplish great things for You here on this earth. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
