“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps.” - I Peter 2: 21

Peter reminds believers that discipleship is not a path of ease but of following in the footsteps of Christ, who willingly endured suffering for our sake.  Jesus, though sinless, bore injustice, insults, and even death without retaliation.  His life shows us that the Christian calling is not about avoiding trials, but about walking faithfully through them with patience, humility, and trust in God.  Our Savior turned suffering into victory, teaching us that the way of the Cross leads to glory.

Dear friends, this verse is both a challenge and a comfort. We are called to follow Jesus’ steps, not only in His love and kindness but also in His endurance under suffering. Many missionaries have embodied this calling, such as Adoniram Judson, who labored in Burma for years amid sickness, imprisonment and the death of loved ones, yet never abandoned the gospel. His perseverance reminds us that to “follow in His steps” means, responding to wrongs with grace, entrusting our lives to God’s care, and reflecting Christ’s character even in pain. Hebrew’s 12:3 says, “Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Take courage, dear child of God - your trials are not wasted. Christ has walked this road before you, and He walks with you even now. His presence gives us strength, His promises give us hope, and His victory assures us that one day our tears will be wiped away.

PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for leaving us an example of endurance and faith. Help me to walk in Your steps, not only in love and kindness, but also in suffering. Strengthen those who suffer for Your name in mission fields across the world. Amen.
