Sunday, March 22 || NO MORE UPS AND DOWNS!

"I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken." - Psalm 16:8

Our Christian life is full of ups and downs. One day, we have the top of the world feeling - filled with zeal for the Lord, having faith to see far into eternity. The next day, we find ourselves at the rock bottom - our faith dried up, and our spirit withered as a dry leaf. It also happened to the Lord’s close disciples Peter, James and John. In Mark 9, we read that Jesus took these men with Him to the Mount of Transfiguration. They were so close to the Lord that they saw Him transfigured. They were blinded to look at the dazzling glory of the Lord as He revealed Himself to them; they were engulfed in a cloud and also heard the voice of the Father! But they failed in their commitment within a short period. In the Garden of Gethsemane, when Jesus was deeply distressed and troubled, He once again took these three men to be with Him, hoping that they would prevail in prayer during that most critical hour. But Peter, James and John soon dozed off. They hit the rock bottom. They forgot their Master’s desperate cry: “Stay here and keep watch. Watch and pray!” All their zeal and commitment for the Lord vanished like a smoke!

Dear friends, like these disciples, we too rise to a new level of spirituality and commit ourselves to a fresh allegiance of the Savior. Then we are bewildered at the depths to which we fall very shortly after that. The only way to stand firm is to draw near to the Lord and stay in close communion with Him each day. He is the One who supports us as we rise up to the mountain top and He is the One who preserves us as we descend into the valley.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I am ashamed to confess that my spiritual life is full of ups and downs. One day I am with You on the mountain top, but another day I hit the rock bottom falling drastically from my commitment. Hold me with Your powerful hands to stand firm every moment. Amen.
