Verse: "...Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." - Exodus 3:5
When Moses was forty years old he fled from Egypt to Midian where he married Zipporah and became a shepherd in Midian, tending his father-in-law's flock. After forty years, when Moses was about eighty years old, as he was watching the sheep at Horeb, the mountain of God, he saw a bush on fire, but the bush was not consumed by the fire because God was in the midst of the flame. (Exodus 3:2). While he approached the bush, God called him from within the bush and Moses replied, "Here, I am." And as he drew near the bush, God commanded him to take off his sandals as the place he was standing was holy ground. Till this period Moses had done everything in his life with his own strength, knowledge and wisdom. But God was saying Moses that all those had to be taken away when he was in His presence, because those characteristics were of the flesh and not of the Spirit. Moses was brought up as Pharaoh's son. Acts 7:22 says, "Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action." But God said, "Take off all your worldly wisdom, and your knowledge, your strength and skills." If Moses had relied on this wisdom, certainly he could not have been able to handle the six million people. He could not have led them even till the Red Sea. He had to be filled with God's power and His Spirit to fulfill God's mission.
Dear friends, if we want to stand on the holy ground and be used by the Lord, we have to cast off everything that hinders us from having a close fellowship with the Lord. Only then can we serve God effectively in the way He wants.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I realize that with my worldly knowledge and human strength I cannot serve You. I need to cast away all that is carnal and those that belong to the world, and be filled with Your Spirit. Lord, I surrender to You completely. Amen.
