Read : Isaiah 44: 21-23

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. ...” - Ephesians 1: 7

The preaching of the early Church always linked forgiveness with the blood of Jesus - Jesus alone is able to grant repentance and forgiveness of sins. (Acts 5: 31) Through the shedding of His blood, as it were, He carried them an infinite distance away, from where they could never return. That is the extent of our forgiveness of our sins! This act of sending away our trespasses and sins brings to our mind the Old Testament ritual carried out once each year on the Day of Atonement, when the high priest sent the scapegoat into the wilderness. (Leviticus 16) The high priest would first kill one of the two goats and sprinkle its blood before God on the mercy seat in the Holy of holies. The high priest would then confess Israel’s sins over the live goat and would have this goat taken into the wilderness to be lost. Christ the Lamb of God was also the “Scapegoat,” who died to carry away our sins, so that they might never again be seen! What a wonderful picture of God’s incomparable, unmerited forgiveness of all our trespasses and sins! Micah 7:18,19 says, “Who is a God like You, who pardons sin and forgives the transgressions. ... You will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.”

Dear friends, when God forgives our sins, He puts them  behind His back and He does not see our sins anymore.  He wipes the slate clear. What joy - Christ’s atoning blood has covered our horrible sins!  Amen.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, no written accusation stands against me because my sins have been taken far, far away by You, never to be remembered anymore. What a great joy it gives me! Thank You Lord for Your shed blood. Now I am freed from sin to serve You, the living God. Amen.
