“Jesus said, “It is finished!” With that, He bowed His head and gave up His Spirit.” - John 19: 30

Jesus declared the word, “Tetelestai” on the Cross, in His moment of ultimate triumph over Satan and sin.  The word Tetelestai was used by various people in everyday life those days.   When someone had a debt and it was paid off, they  would write Tetelestai on that certificate which means “Paid in full.”  When a Roman citizen was convicted of a crime, the law in those days locked them in prison, prepared a “Certificate of Debt” that listed all the crimes he was convicted of on it and nailed the certificate to his cell door for all to see.  It remained there so all would be assured that he served his full sentence and paid in full the penalty of his crimes.  The authorities stamped the word Tetelestai  across his Certificate of Debt after a criminal had completed his prison term.  Then the criminal was given the certificate which he could produce to show that his debts had been “paid in full.”  He could never be a victim of “double jeopardy” or paying for the same crime twice.

Dear friends, the death of Jesus on the Cross completed the story that God had written since before the creation of the world.  It had been predestined and  predetermined in the mind and heart of the Father.  Because of the Cross, we can look back and understand all of the Old Testament rituals and ceremonies which pointed to this one day in time and eternity, when the price of redemption for the hopeless mankind was “Paid in Full.”  Let our hearts be filled with gratitude for this great sacrifice done by our Lord.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, not silver nor gold has obtained my redemption.  No riches of earth can save my soul.  The blood of Jesus on the Cross is my only foundation.  The death of my Savior can only atone for my sin.  Thank you Lord for this precious price of love untold.  Amen.
