Saturday, May 24 || WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS!

Read : John 15:12-17

“... I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”- John 15:15

In the gospels, Jesus called certain people as His friends. 

Firstly, in Luke 5: 17-29, a paralytic man was brought to Jesus by his friends. When Jesus saw the paralytic lying on the mat, he said to him, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” Here, we see Jesus identifying Himself as one with the friends of the paralytic man. 

Secondly, in Luke 12: 4, Jesus said to His disciples and to the people who were following Him, “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body …” Jesus regarded all those who had gathered to hear Him as His friends!

Thirdly, in John 11, Jesus said to His disciples, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep.” Jesus considered Lazarus as His friend even though Lazarus was not one of His disciples nor followed Him during His ministry in Galilee.

Next, in John 15, we read that on the night before He was crucified, Jesus met His disciples, men who were weak in faith, who lacked understanding and fearful in the Upper Room and told them, “You are my friends!”

Lastly, in the Garden at Gethsemane when Judas approached Him, and kissed Him to betray Him, Jesus addressed him as friend. He asked Judas, “Friend, why have you come?” How could Jesus call the man who betrayed Him as His friend? However, He did!

Dear friends, Jesus sees each one of us as potential friends. He is the best friend we will ever have. So, let us enjoy His friendship every moment of each day. 

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to this earth to be my best Friend! Though it is hard for me to think that He desires to have me – an unworthy sinner – as His friend, yet His love for me is great. I believe He has accepted me to be His friend. Thank You for my best Friend Jesus! Amen.
