The Ten Commandments
These were given to us by God to foster a relationship with Him.
However, we and our ancestors took them literally as strict rules.
Command - This means:
to give a commanding or authoritative order.
to dominate a strategic position from a higher ground.
an authoritative directive.
The Israelites were freed from 400 years of bondage, and God was guiding them to the Promised Land, Canaan.
In our current time, Jesus has cleansed us from our sins and liberated us from all forms of bondage, aiming to lead us to the Promised Land - the New Jerusalem.
God loved His people immensely after liberating them from their bondage; He wanted the Israelites to understand that their freedom was a result of His love. To maintain a continuous relationship with Him, He provided the Ten Commandments - more than just rules, they were lifestyle principles designed to keep them from straying away from God and falling back into bondage with the heathens.
Jesus said it simply -
"The first is, 'Listen, O Israel: the Lord is our God, the Lord is one; you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.'
The second is this, 'You must love your neighbor as yourself.'
There is no commandment greater than these.'"
— Mark 12:28–31
Jesus emphasized to love your God and love your neighbor -
In a straightforward way, Jesus told us to love. Love is what keeps you in a good relationship. It frees your mind, soul, and heart, relieving you from all kinds of bondage.
Our ancestors missed this crucial understanding of love and got caught up in rituals. They treated the Ten Principles, Ten Actions of Love, and Ten Reflections of Love as mere commands, like slaves following orders from their master, which led them into a cycle of fear and the creation of many new rules to avoid punishment for not adhering to the Ten Commandments (Orders).
Ten Principles of Love
I am the LORD your God; you shall Love not to have strange gods before me.
You shall Love not to take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
Remember - Love to keep holy the LORD's Day.
Honor - Love your father and mother.
You should love not to kill.
You should love not to commit adultery.
You should love not to steal.
You should love not to give false testimony against your neighbor.
You should love not to desire your neighbor’s wife.
You should love not to desire your neighbor’s possessions.
Today, we find salvation through Christ's Love, not through our deeds, as He bore an incredible and immeasurable cost for us.
May His Love shine upon us, encouraging us to love God and others unconditionally, no matter the situation. Let the joy of Christ fill our hearts.
I Corinthians 13
3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails.
