Read : Luke 14: 25-33
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?”
- Luke 14: 28
Following Jesus is the greatest decision we will ever make - but it is not one to be taken lightly. The Lord Himself told His followers to “count the cost.” True discipleship is not a half-hearted agreement; it is a wholehearted surrender. It calls for a willingness to give up anything - possessions, ambitions, even relationships - if they hinder our obedience to Christ. In a culture that often seeks the path of least resistance, Jesus’ words remain a piercing reminder - the road to glory is paved with sacrifice. The question we must ask is not, “What can I keep?” but, “What must I lay down?”
Dear friends, “counting the cost” is not about losing joy, but about gaining what is eternal. It is choosing the narrow way, knowing it leads to a spacious place in God’s presence. Like Paul, we press on, knowing that “our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” (II Corinthians 4:17)
Today, let us examine our hearts: Are we willing to pay the price of full obedience? Are there comforts, habits, or attachments that hold us back from total surrender? Let us release them into His hands, for nothing we give up for Christ is ever truly lost. The reward far exceeds the cost, and His presence is worth more than anything we leave behind. PRAYER: Dear Lord, teach me to follow You with a heart fully surrendered. Give me Your grace to choose the narrow way which leads to eternal joy. Help me to value eternal treasures above temporary comforts, and to joyfully pay the price of obedience. Amen.
