“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways ...”

- Deuteronomy 10: 12,13

In these verses, Moses reminds the people of Israel of their covenant responsibilities. God had chosen them, redeemed them and cared for them as a father in the wilderness. Yet they had repeatedly shown unfaithfulness - turning to idols, grumbling against His provisions and resisting His commands. Still God in His mercy did not cast them away. Instead He called them to return to Him, to fear Him, love Him, serve Him and keep His commands. He is a mighty and awesome God who shows no partiality, and defends the weak and the fatherless. So He desired that they too should love the aliens and the oppressed. Our Lord Jesus echoed this when He said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. ... and love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39)

The Israelites thought that by observing certain rituals, by their sacrifices and offerings they could please the Lord. But the Lord wanted inner renewal and repentance, not just outward ritual. He said in verse 16, “Circumcise your hearts, and do not be stiff necked any longer.”

Dear friends, for us today, the call is no different.  The Lord invites us to walk in His ways, to obey His Word, to love Him deeply and to serve Him faithfully.  Let these acts of devotion not flow from fear but from gratitude for God’s redeeming grace.  The God who redeemed Israel has redeemed us through Christ, and He still desires that our lives reflect His goodness, bringing Him glory through our daily walk.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, teach me to walk in Your ways with reverence and love. Help me to love You with all my heart and soul and strength, and live each day reflecting Your love to others. Let my life be a testimony of Your goodness and grace. Amen.
