Developing a deep relationship with God does not just happen. It must be sought after, prayed for, nurtured and treasured. Stormie Omartian mentions four things that tell us whether our walk with God is shallow or deep. Firstly, if you follow the Lord for only what He can do for you, your walk with Him is shallow. On the other hand, if you love Him enough to ask Him what you can do for Him, then your relationship is growing deep. Secondly, if you only pray to God when things are tough or you need something, then your walk with Him is shallow. But if you find yourself praying to Him many times a day because you love to be in His presence , then your relationship is growing deeper. Thirdly, if you get disappointed in God when He doesn’t do what you want, then your walk with Him is shallow. On the contrary, if you can praise God no matter what is going on in your life, then your relationship with Him is growing deep. Fourthly, if you think you have to beg God or twist His arm to receive an answer to your prayers, then your walk with Him is shallow. But if you believe that God wants to give answers to your prayers in line with His will, then your relationship with Him is growing deep.

Dear friends, the most important way of strengthening our relationship with God is to spend more time alone with Him – reading His word and communicating with Him in prayer.

PRAYER: Dear God, I eagerly desire to have a deep intimate relationship with You. Let me love You for who You are and not for what I get from You. Let me not approach You only in times of trouble but commune with You as often as possible and joyfully submit to Your will. Amen.
