“... Jesus ... told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and
then I could see.” - John 9: 11
As Jesus passed by, He encountered a man who had been born blind. This man was a beggar, and provides a picture of the sinner. (Romans 3: 23) However, the Lord made it clear that the man’s physical condition was not connected in any way with either his personal sin or the sin of his parents. The Lord, who is the Light of the world, gave the blind man his sight. How wonderful to read that it was by His Word that the Lord changed water into wine (John 2: 7-9), but He applied clay on the blind man’s eyes and told him to wash in the pool of Siloam. And when he did, a miracle happened. The man came home seeing. But there were three different reactions to what Jesus had done to this man.
First, the man’s friends and neighbors who had known him a long time revealed surprise and skepticism.
Second, the Pharisees showed disbelief and prejudice.
Third, his parents believed, but kept quiet for fear of excommunication. In the midst of these, the man’s reaction was amazing. He insisted, “I am the man!” A great testimony! Short and to the point! “Insisted” signifies that he was repeatedly questioned and he repeatedly testified that he was the miracle man.
Dear friends, after our personal encounter with Jesus, is the world able to see a change in us? Would people say, “Well, it sure looks like him/her, but they sure are different. He/She doesn’t talk the same. They were never interested in the Bible or the Church before, now that is all they are interested in. What happened?” Let our life be a witness to Jesus, who saved us, and let it display the glory of God.Dear Lord, the obviously changed life and the simple witness of the blind man brought glory to You. Let my life too bring glory to You. When I get an opportunity to share my witness, let me keep my focus on You - that You are the mighty Savior, who can open their blind eyes. Amen.
