The Lord Is Our Deliverer

Verse: "Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me." (Psalm 59:1)

Sundar Singh lived in the 1920's. He was a devout Hindu and was persecuting Christians in his village. One day while he was in his room, a bright light appeared. He looked into the light and saw the form of Jesus Christ. A voice spoke to Sundar Singh in Hindustani, "How long will you persecute me? I have come to save you. You were praying to know the right way". At that point Sundar Singh became a believer in Jesus. Once a Hindu became very upset with Sundar Singh's preaching and he threw him in a dry well. The lid was securely locked and he was left there to die. On the third night when he was crying to God in prayer, Sundar heard someone unlocking the lid of the well and telling him to take hold of the rope that was lowered. When Sundar did so he was drawn up, and the lid was replaced and locked. When he looked around to thank his rescuer, he could find no one! When morning came, he returned to the city where he was arrested and began preaching again. When the man who threw Sundar Singh into the well heard this, he questioned him. When Sundar Singh told what happened to him, the man suspected that someone had taken the key and let him out. When they searched for the key it was found attached to the man's own belt!

Dear friends, God sends His angels to rescue His trusting children when they are in trouble. Prophet Jeremiah was thrown into the cistern, Joseph in a pit, Daniel in the lion's den and Peter into the prison. But they were all rescued in miraculous ways. God is our Deliverer and He will deliver us from sin and Satan when we cry to Him for mercy.

Prayer: Dear Lord, in the past, how amazingly You delivered Your children from death and danger. You are the same unchanging God. As I cry unto You for deliverance today, I trust that You will rescue me because You love me. Thank You Lord. Amen.
