Narrow Way Leads To Eternal Life

Verse: "... This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?" (John 6:60)

We have become a people characterized by convenience. There was a time when travel between cities was done without the comfort of interstate highways. Checking out at the local store was not facilitated by scanners and computer aided cash registers. And cashiers working in the stores actually had to calculate mentally, how much change should be given to the customers! Indeed we have come a long way! And now we have created a society that expects convenience in every area of life. But some things are never intended to be easy. In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus said, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it". The path that leads to heaven is not smooth and easy. It is narrow and rough!

The spiritual journey of a Christian starts from the moment he accepts Jesus as his Lord and Savior. This path is not easy because it means walking against the forces of this world. Those who walk in this path should seek to please God by doing what God expects and follow God's will. The narrow gate and road refers to Jesus' teaching which emphasizes not just external requirements like going to church regularly and participating in Holy Communion and giving to the poor but internal transformation. It requires sanctification and purity in one's life everyday. Dear friends, let us walk in the narrow path though it is difficult and though it has many inconveniences - because its result will be unimaginably glorious!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, let me not expect a smooth creamy walk in my Christian journey. Let me willingly walk in the narrow path though it is hard and rough because only that leads to a place, where I can enjoy abundant blessings forever and ever. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
