Verse: "... And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he trusted in his God." - Daniel 6:23
Have you ever seen birds sleeping? They never lie down on their backs while they sleep, but they perch upon the branches of the trees and go to sleep peacefully. Never do they fall down in sleep. This is because of the tendons in the bird's legs. They are so constructed that when the leg is bent at the knee, the claws contract and grip like a steel trap. The claws refuse to let go until the knees are unbent again! How amazing! The bended knee gives the bird the ability to hold on to its branch tightly.
From the sleeping birds we can learn a spiritual secret - the secret of holding power which comes through our bended knees. Daniel found this to be true. His enemies in Babylon influenced the king to issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god other than the king during the next thirty days should be thrown into the lion's den. On hearing this, Daniel might have been tempted to compromise with evil, to weaken his grip on God. But he refused to let go. He bent his knees three times a day and prayed to God, giving thanks to Him as he had been doing every other day. He held firm to God because he was a man of prayer. The result? He was miraculously delivered from the jaws of the lions. He conquered evil because he knew the power of the bended knees. Halleluiah! Dear friends, when the devil advances against us threatening to trample us down, let us bend our knees in prayer and get a firmer grip on God. When we do so, we can rest assured that He will hold us tightly and never allow us to fall.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I believe that when I bend my knees in prayer I get a firmer grip on You and on Your promises. So when Satan threatens me to push me down, let me never give way to hopelessness, but hold on to You and those qualities that You desire in me, and stand firmly. Give me Your peace. Amen.
