Read : I Timothy 6: 6-11

“Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap … that plunge people into ruin and destruction.” - I Timothy 6:9

No matter how spiritual we may be in other areas, we will never experience the real blessing of God in our lives until we bring our money under the will of God. Paul says, “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” (I Timothy 6:10) Derek Prince says, “Your attitude toward money actually reveals your attitude toward God Himself.” In His Sermon on the Mount, we find Jesus Himself talking on the topic “Money.” He said, “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Matthew 6:24) Some translations use the word “mammon” for money. “Mammon is more than just money. Mammon is an evil spiritual power that grips men and enslaves them through the medium of money,” writes Derek Prince. If we love mammon, then we hate God. On the other hand, if we hold on to God and commit our lives to Him, we will despise mammon. In other words, we despise the Satanic force which enslaves men and women through money. We cannot maintain neutrality in this matter. So, we should set our priorities right. Jesus said, “But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33) When we serve God and seek His Kingdom and righteousness, then God will see to it that all the material and financial things we need are added to us.

So dear friends, let us not leave God and run behind money.  Proverbs 3:9 says, “Honor the Lord with your wealth.” After all, it is God who has given us the wisdom and strength to earn money.  So let us not be greedy as the people of this world are, but let us commit our finances in God’s hands and be blessed by Him abundantly.

PRAYER: Loving heavenly Father, let me not use the wealth and riches that You have given me as I wish. Let me not devote my life to earn money, and despise You. Instead, let me honor You by committing myself and my finances to You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
