Read : Nehemiah 2: 2-9
“The One who breaks open the way will go up before them, they will break through the gate and go out. ...” - Micah 2:13
William Carey, as a young man, wanted to go to India and preach the good news. A senior Baptist minister in the committee said, “Young man, sit down. When God wishes to convert the heathen, He’ll do so without your help or mine.” Carey was unmoved. He was willing to step out in faith, willing to take the risk, trusting in His God. That is boldness! And God honored his boldness by giving him credit for over 100 churches he established, for over 1000 souls he brought to Christ, for the 34+ translations of the Word of God, and also for a dozen of institutions, including the seminary at Serampore in India! His famous one-liner is, “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” Nehemiah had concern; he fasted and prayed, he waited till the opportune moment. One day, as he stood before the king to serve him wine, the Lord opened the eyes of the king, who asked Nehemiah, “Why does your face look so sad when you seem to be hale and healthy?” Now was the time for Nehemiah to exhibit his courage and boldness. He said that he was concerned over the ruins of his native town and that he planned to rebuild that city’s wall. He also asked for grant of provisions for the work he envisaged. Because the gracious hand of the Lord was upon him, the King granted his request. (Nehemiah 2:8) Nehemiah faced troubles but still trusted God. And God enabled him to build the wall in a record time of 52 days!
Dear friends, in Jeremiah 32:27, God says, “I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?” Don Jaques said, “If you or I are ever going to do the “impossible” for God, there is going to come a time when our praying and waiting will need to turn to action.” Our Lord has boundless power and has proved His faithfulness in our lives on many occasions. So let us face any situation with extraordinary boldness, and unlimited expectations of what God can do in accordance with His will and purpose!PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I am inspired by Nehemiah and William Carey. They were ordinary men like me, with fears and doubts. But they put their confidence in You and took bold steps for You. And You honored them by making them do the impossible. Use me also likewise. Amen.
