Wednesday, June 03 || ONLY JESUS, THE LIVING WATER CAN SATISFY THE THIRSTY SOUL

“If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, ... He

would have given you living water.” - John 4:10

When the Samaritan woman heard Jesus say that He would give her living water, she was obviously puzzled, and she responded, “You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep.” The Jacob’s well she was talking about was indeed deep. If one did not have a long rope and a bucket, he cannot get the water out. But Jesus explained to her, “I am not talking about the water in the well. Drink of that water and you will be thirsty again. But I will give you a living water, and the one who drinks of the water I give will never thirst.” Jesus goes on to make it clear that the living water would be from within, “The water I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” By this He means of course, the Spirit which He will impart is a life-giving Spirit that as one drinks of that Spirit, one would experience the eternal life. It is a refreshing, invigorating, exciting life; life that has qualities of love, joy and peace.

Dear friends, many of us never realize that if we come to Jesus, our inner thirst can be met instantly. We run to the worldly things to quench our thirst, but they are of no avail. Malcolm Muggeridge before meeting Christ, had been drinking from the finest earthly fountains - fame, success, pleasure and fulfillment. “Yet I say to you,” he once testified, “multiply these tiny triumphs by a million, add them all together, and they are nothing ... measured against one draught of that living water that is offered to the spiritually hungry.” Are you drinking from earthly fountains and still feeling thirsty? Turn to Christ and drink the living water. You will never want anything less.

Dear Lord, I understand that those who come to Christ, find living water that satisfies the deep thirst within. Help me to come to You, Lord Jesus, to quench my spiritual thirst. Let Your Holy Spirit provide me spiritual cleansing and constant refreshment. Amen.
