Read : Esther 7: 1-10

“The same day King Xerxes gave Queen Esther the estate of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. ...” - Esther 8: 1

Esther received the wealth of Haman and Mordecai received the position of Haman. And both these “rewards” were from King Xerxes! This was the same king who had not long ago encouraged Haman (Esther 3:1) and who agreed with him to plot to annihilate the entire Jewish race! (Esther 3: 10-11) The king who had given Haman a “thumps up” to kill the Jews, ended of giving Haman a “thumbs down” condemning him to be hung on his own gallows. Not only that, on that same day he gave Haman’s house to Esther. What a change! The wealth of the man, who wanted to become Lord over the Jews and plunder their wealth, went straight to a Jew whom he hated all the more! The King also gave the signet ring, which was once on Haman’s fingers, to Mordecai. The King’s signet ring conveyed authority to the possessor. We see this as a result of God’s paradoxical, providential working behind the scene; the very ring that had been used by Haman to seal the fate of the Jews was now bestowed on a Jew.

Dear friends, Proverbs 21:1 says that God has the ability to change any heart - even the heart of the king.  You may have some individual who has one major goal in life - to make your life miserable.  He may be your colleague, or your neighbor or you may be married to such a person.  Now, then it is essential that in the midst of this you should remember that there is no wall so strong that cannot be broken by God.  There is no will so stubborn that He is not able to soften it.  If God can change King Xerxes, He can change any heart.  He can change any situation.  Amen.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to see Your providential hand in my life. Help me to trust You that You are Sovereign and You do all things well in Your time, and in doing them has only good as Your goal. You can change a person’s heart any time. Amen.
