Martin Luther, Charles Finney, Susanna Wesley, Jonathan Edwards ... These are great saints of God. A.W Tozer says, “The one vital quality which these people have in common is spiritual receptivity. Something in them is open to heaven, something which urges them Godward. They have a spiritual awareness and they go on to cultivate it until it becomes the biggest thing in their lives.” An average person senses God’s nudging but does nothing about them. But not so with the spiritual giant. As he hears the voice of the Holy Spirit, he responds immediately. Take for example, the Old Testament saint, Abraham. One day, God called Abraham and told, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering…” The next verse (Genesis 22:3) says, “Early the next morning, Abraham got up and saddled his donkey and set out to Moriah along with his son Isaac.” Is it not the climax of obedience to the Lord? When the Lord instructed him, Abraham did not question God, nor did he suggest some other alternative, but obeyed Him implicitly. What was the result? The Lord was extremely pleased with Abraham’s obedience and called him, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore.”

Dear friends, if you sense that the Lord is leading you to a deeper level of trust and obedience, do it, then you will be great in His Kingdom.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, give me the spiritual awareness to listen to the nudging of the Spirit and obey implicitly. Let my self-will be subdued and let Your will rule over my life. Let me know You in a deeper way. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
