Read : Luke 12; 17-19, I Timothy 6: 6-10

"And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle." - Genesis 13:7

Some people think that wealth and riches are given by the devil, as he is described as the prince of this world. But, when we read Proverbs 10:22, we can clearly understand that riches devoid of sorrow comes only from the Lord. In the life of Abraham we see this truth vividly. Even when wealth comes from God’s hands, if we have wrong perspective about money, it will bring us strife and sorrow. Warren Wiersbe writes, “The problem between Abraham and Lot was not caused by the land, the farmers, the wealth because both of them were rich, or even their herdsmen. (Genesis 13:7) The heart of every problem is the problem in the heart.

Lot’s heart was centered on wealth and worldly achievement, while Abraham wanted only to please the Lord.” Because Lot had wrong perspective about money, it was not a blessing to him but only a curse. So we need to be careful regarding money. When God blesses us, instead of being contented, we may start coveting more and more of prosperity. The rich fool, as he was called by Jesus, did that mistake. When his harvest was blessed he started to hoard, instead of becoming a blessing to many. (Luke 12:17-19)

Dear friends, sorrow will never accompany God’s blessing. But, our circumstances and our attitude possibly can add sorrow. To avoid this, instead of trusting on the riches, we must stop being selfish and trust the Lord more than the riches. We read clear instructions in I Timothy 6:17 that the rich should trust in the living God and not in uncertain riches. So, when God entrusts us with riches, we are to act as faithful stewards of the Lord, and live a life that will bless others.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, You will not add sorrow to the blessings You add up in my life, but I could do that by mishandling money and with my wrong perceptions. Help me to be guided by biblical principles while handling money. Let me become a blessing when blessed. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
