Wednesday, February 18 || REPENTANCE LEADS TO RESTORATION AND REVIVAL

“Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart,

with fasting and weeping and mourning.” - Joel 2: 12

In the days of Joel, the nation of Israel was in trouble. One insect invasion after another destroyed their crops. They also faced invasion from surrounding nations where enemies were strong, numerous and seemed to be too powerful. (Joel 1: 4-7) Besides, a severe drought afflicted their land. (Joel 1 : 18-20) Fires broke out that destroyed the forests. None of these things were accidental; they were all judgment of God upon the land. The people had turned against the Lord, and so they were paying for their rebellion. But there was still hope! God reached out to them one more time to call them to Him. Genuine repentance is the only hope they had for survival. God called them to return to Him with all their heart. He called them to rend their heart and not their garments.

Dear friends, today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Lenten season, the beginning of a 40 day journey - a journey from brokenness to restoration, through God’s grace and His forgiveness. We are invited to make a real conversion and renewal of our lives during the period. God is not looking for mere external displays of religion; He is looking for heart change. He is looking for people who are broken over their sinfulness.

So, first let us humble ourselves before God and pray that He would save us.

Second, let us pray that God should save our nation from spiritual darkness and from eternal judgment. If we want to see a revival in our land, we need to change our ways. Let us realise how far we have fallen, and let us desire to get back to where God would have us to be.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I am willing to come out of my sinful ways and dedicate my life to You. I surrender my whole being to Your will and way. Forgive me and restore me back. Use me as Your instrument for building Your Kingdom. Let there be a revival in our nation. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
