“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; ...” - Psalm 37:7
Campbell Morgan said, “Waiting on God means 'the ability to do nothing' until the command is given. Men can endure a busy phase of activity but not a short period of lull. It is easy to go full steam, but it is the hardest thing to be patient till the apt moment to act comes.”
Nehemiah 1:1 says that Nehemiah started the fasting in the month of Kislev, which corresponds to December. And when he stood before the king to serve wine, it was the month of Nisan - that is April. It was then that the king noticed that his face was downcast. Almost four months he had waited fasting and praying before he jumped into action. He did not attempt to talk with the king regarding his problem during this waiting time. That is waiting on God! Nehemiah waited for God’s command and time!
Don Jaques writes, “Four months! Most of us have a hard time waiting 4 minutes for God. But Nehemiah prayed, and fasted, and waited, and prayed some more and fasted some more, and prayed some more, until finally the Lord opened the door for action on his part.” We learn a lesson here.
BEFORE you go out to accomplish anything for God, you need to spend time on your knees till you are clear on what God tells you to do.
BEFORE you go out to meet the challenge, and attempt the impossible in His name, you have to take the time to pray – to fast – and to WAIT!
Dear friends, it needs great patience to wait for some time before we see results. However, we should remember that waiting time is not wasting time. It is a time to engage ourselves in prayer and fasting. And God will surely open the door that remains closed until now. Are you praying for someone's salvation in your family or neighborhood, or for somebody’s health or a financial breakthrough? Do you still see only closed doors? WAIT! FAST! PRAY! Surely the Lord can do the same thing to you as He did to Nehemiah! He will open the door at the most opportune moment. PRAYER: Dear Lord, I become weary that my prayer is not answered for such a long time. I believe that You are a prayer-answering God and You will never disappoint those who come to You in faith. Give me the patience to wait before You, and not jump into action before I get an answer from You. Amen.
