Read : Deuteronomy 32:11-12

“You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you.” - Exodus 19:4

In the Bible, we see eagle as a bird identified with the Israelites in two aspects – in their deliverance from Egypt and in their spiritual growth and maturity. In Exodus 19:4, we see the Lord as an eagle carrying them on wings from Egypt, and in Deuteronomy 32:11,12, we see the Lord as an eagle stirring up the nest, hovering over them spreading His wings to carry them when they failed in their wilderness journey. What do eagles teach us with regard to our spiritual lives?

Warren Wiersbe writes, “The eagles illustrate three aspects of freedom – Firstly, freedom from their nest; secondly, freedom in the air which is their habitat; and thirdly, freedom to fulfill their purpose in life.”  In a believer’s life there are these three aspects – firstly, freedom from sin - which represents redemption through Jesus’ blood;  secondly, freedom in our growing and attaining spiritual maturity, and thirdly, freedom to fulfill God’s purpose in our lives which represents doing His ministry.  God delivers us from sin but our freedom should not stop here.  God has something better for us to enjoy and to do, and for this we have to “try our wings.”  We have to take the risk so that we will mature. When we are maturing in the Lord, life becomes a series of open doors that lead to more and more opportunities for responsible freedom. But if we refuse to let God mature us, we become confined within a limited boundary and our life becomes unproductive for us, for others and above all for God.  So, let us grow into a life of maturity.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, let me not restrict the freedom that You have given me. Let me not stop with the salvation experience, but grow and mature in You and in Your Word. Help me to try my wings take the risk and venture to do great work for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
