Read : Mark 11: 22-24

“But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt. ...” - James 1: 6

Contrary to the common misunderstanding, doubt is not the same as unbelief, and it is not the opposite of faith. Rather it is a state of mind that hangs between faith and unbelief. To believe is to be of one mind in accepting something as true, to disbelieve is to be of one mind in rejecting it, to doubt is to waver somewhere between the two and thus to be of two minds. Followers of Christ are not to be simply fair-weather believers. We are to be realistically committed to truth. We are to be like experienced pilots who can fly in bad weather as easily as in good, by night as well as by day, and upside down as well as right side up! Faith’s rainy days will come and go and dark nights of soul may threaten to overwhelm, but safe flying is possible for those who have a solid grasp of instruments - God’s truth and promises.

Dear friends, when you go through unexpected trials, is one of your first reactions  to listen to the doubts which lie dormant in your soul?  The next time you find yourself surrounded by variegated, multi colored trials, consider the words of the psalmist in Psalm 42:5, “Why are you downcast, O my soul?  Why are you so disturbed within me?  Put your hope in God.”  Be encouraged - our heavenly Father will not stand by and see His children trampled on for ever, as surely as the sun arises every morning, light would arise for people of God, though for a while they may walk in darkness.  So cast away all doubts and build up your faith in the Lord.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, let me not be a doubting person having lack of confidence in Your faithfulness or power. Let me not manifest lack of consistency and yield to the forces outside, but let me grasp Your Word and Your promises, and stand firm in difficult times. Amen.
