“If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” - Mark 4: 23

Physical deafness was not the issue Jesus was addressing in today’s text. He referred to spiritual deafness. Who are spiritually deaf people? Spiritually deaf people are those who keep their ears wide open to the noises of this world, to money matters, to criticisms, to appreciations, to worldly music and other sounds. But when it comes to hearing the Word of God, their ears close automatically! Are they born spiritually deaf like some who are born physically deaf? No. Though God has enabled every human to hear spiritual things, it is because of their own rebelliousness and stubbornness that these men purposely shut their spiritual hearing faculty. They fail to understand that the Word of God that is ministered to them is of utmost importance and that it has an eternal consequence. On the other hand, there are some people who consciously open their mind, who have spiritual sensitivity for the Word of God. The more they open, the more they receive and the more they grow spiritually and produce more yield.

Dear friends, let us examine ourselves. We may go to church, we may be good worshippers, and we may pray together, sing together and have fellowship with one another. But do we have our spiritual hearing faculty open to hear the Word of God? Let us be like the good soil, which after receiving the seed, produced a crop which yielded a hundred, sixty or thirty times of what was sown. Our lives will be fruitful only if we hear His Word and do what He says.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I am ashamed to confess that I keep my faulty spiritual hearing open to the things of the world, but when it comes to hearing your Word, I do according to my convenience. Forgive me. Let me receive your Word fully and yield bountiful harvest. Amen.
