Read : I John 1:8, 2:2
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive
us our sins. ...” - I John 1-9
Romans 3:23 says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” But there are some who say, "I have never sinned." This is quite impossible. I John 1:10 says, "If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His Word is not in us." So first of all, we have to accept that we are sinners. We must have a realistic image of ourselves. We must be able to recognize our spiritual state of wretchedness. Having accepted that we are sinners, we need not live in sin all the days of our lives. John in his letter writes, "But if anybody does sin, we have One who speaks to the Father in our defense - Jesus Christ, the Righteous One." (I John 2: 1) We are indeed people who do sin, but when our conscience cries out that we are guilty, we should be honest and open with God who knows all things. He will forgive us and cleanse us from all our unrighteousness. When we do sin, instead of turning away from God if we turn to Him, He will forgive us patiently with tender compassion.
Dear friends, let us not justify our actions and deceive ourselves that we are not sinners. Instead, whenever the Holy Spirit convicts us through our conscience, let us confess our sins to the Lord. By doing so, we would become stronger and better Christians, turning more and more like Jesus each day. PRAYER: Heavenly Father, many times I deceive myself that I have not sinned. I give different names to my sin - like wrong, mistake or error, and try to cover-up my sinful deeds. I act as if I am innocent. I open up my heart now and confess to You all my sins. Forgive me and cleanse me by Jesus’ blood. In Jesus' name I pray Amen.
