“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” - Matthew 5:6

Wesley L. Duewel tells of how his mother was filled with the Holy Spirit. “My mother was converted in her childhood as she knelt at the altar in a country church. When the invitation to receive Christ was given, she was too timid to pray aloud but her heart cried to God for mercy and she knew God forgave her sins. But Mother soon found that she had deep spiritual need remaining in her heart. When she became a teenager, Mother was employed in a home. One day God seemed to whisper to her, “You are not filled with the Spirit!’’ She started praying throughout the day during her work and also intended to pray all night. But before morning she fell asleep. When she woke in the morning, she felt ashamed that she had failed to hold on in prayer. All that day she tried to pray on in the hunger of her heart and that night again she slept. The third morning, as she lit the fire in the wood-burning stove to prepare breakfast, she was singing, “Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. There is room in my heart for thee.” Suddenly, it seemed the fire from heaven fell upon her heart. She started from the house to the barn to milk the cow and she was so happy she began to skip and run for joy. She had never heard a testimony or a sermon on the fullness of the Spirit. She had never read a book on the subject. She hardly knew what she was thirsting for, but God knew and filled her with the Holy Spirit.

Dear friends, we need not know the theology or process or earn a degree to be Spirit-filled.  All we need is hunger.  Are we more hungry for the fullness of the Spirit than our daily food?   Then God  will certainly fill us in overflowing measure.  Amen.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I long to be filled by the Holy Spirit. I hunger and thirst for the same. Fulfill my earnest longing. Anoint me and fill me more and more, and use me more than ever before. Come upon me and set my life aflame. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
