“They raised their voices together ... to God. ... After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. ...” - Acts 4:24,31

Prayer for revival is different from every other kind of prayer. “Prayer for revival has a power to move God. It embraces what God most loves in prayer. In such prayers fervency is greater; union with God is more intimate,” writes Ernest M.Wadsworth. Prayers for revival are powerful to shake heaven and bring down showers of blessing from the Lord.

When the Israelites were oppressed by the slave masters, they groaned in their slavery and cried out to the Lord to deliver them from their great distress. Exodus 2:24 says, “God heard their groaning and He remembered His covenant with Abraham.” He sent Moses to bring them out from their cruel bondage. Yes, whenever God hears the groaning of His troubled people, He arises to help them.

Secondly, when people fall down prostrate before the Lord and cry unto Him with their faces to the ground, the Lord surely sends a revival among them. This prayer truly touches the heart of the Lord.

Thirdly, when saints of God unite their hearts together in prayer, God begins to act. This was how the great revivalist Jonathan Edwards was able to bring a great revival in England. In response to his call, prayer groups were formed all over the land. The spirit of prayer was upon the people and they spent whole nights in prayer.

Fourthly, when people pray selfless prayers, God is pleased and He responds immediately. When the Israelites made a golden calf and worshipped it, the Lord in His fierce anger wanted to destroy the whole community, but Moses pleaded. “Please forgive their sin – but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written.” (Exodus 32:32)

Dear friends, only our selfless and prevailing prayers can bring God’s supernatural presence and power among men and cause a great revival.

PRAYER: Almighty God, let me not be satisfied with my shallow prayer life. Burden my heart and help me to pray with great fervor and zeal. Let my prayer bring a revival in my country. Give me Your grace to pray with groaning and deep crying for the salvation of lost souls. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
