“Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.” - Genesis 5: 24

Walking can be defined as a series of small steps in the same direction over a period of time. The Bible says that Enoch walked with God after the birth of his son Methuselah for 300 years. Walking together with someone implies a number of things.

First, both the persons should be in the same place at the same time.

Second, both should have to be going in the same direction.

Third, they have to be going at the same pace.

So walking together implies a shared commitment to be at the same place at the same time going in the same direction together. For Enoch to walk with God, it meant that every day he got up and said, “Lord, where do You want me to go today?” And wherever God went, Enoch went too. He set his heart to walk with God, by His side, in the same direction, at the same pace all day long. And so he did, day after day, week after week, year after year. Because his heart was set to follow the Lord, he walked with Him as a habit of life. He came to love what God loves and hate what God hates. More interesting though, the Lord was pleased with Enoch. (Hebrews 11: 5) One day He must have said something like, “Enoch, we have come a long way together. Why don’t you just come on home and stay with me?”

Dear friends, to walk with God we need to keep in step with Him without running ahead or lagging behind.   Along the way, we talk with God, listen to Him and enjoy His presence.  We trust His guidance when we cannot  see what lies ahead.  What a privilege!  The Lord, the Creator, the Redeemer, the Ruler looks for those who walk with Him and seek His friendship.  Are we seeking His?

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to make a commitment to walk with You daily. Let me walk with You side by side and feel my hand in Yours. Let me share my thoughts with Yours. Let me know the joy of walking in Your strength and not in mine. Let me learn all I can from You and love You more day by day. Amen.
