"... Then the wind died down and it was completely calm." - Mark 4: 39
When Jesus and His disciples were sailing in a boat in the Sea of Galilee one night, there arose a severe storm unexpectedly. Even though most of these disciples were used to being on the Sea of Galilee at night, they were terrified at this storm because of its severity. While the storm was raging around them, Jesus was fast asleep in the back of the boat. They ran to Him and woke Him up crying, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" Why this doubt? After all, they had already seen Jesus drive away demons and heal diseases. They should have known that He could even silence the storm! What then was their problem? They were looking at the situation and not at the Savior. But before we get too hard on the disciples, perhaps we should consider our own hearts. Have there been times in our lives when the storms are raging, we have questioned God's concern for us? Have there been times when we have cried, "Lord, don't You care about what is happening to me?"
Dear friends, let not our hearts be troubled. God does care. He cares more than we could ever know. He is doing something about the situation, even though we might not see it now. He has promised, never to leave us nor forsake us. The words "leave" and "forsake" mean that He will not let you sink; He will not abandon you, desert you or leave you under any circumstances. When the storm is raging, when our boat is rocking, when the adverse winds are blowing, when the waves are crashing against our vessel, be sure He will not let us sink! He will still the storm and take us safe ashore.Prayer: Dear Lord, when the storm rages, the winds blow, let me not be afraid that my boat would sink, or feel that You have abandoned me. You are in the boat with me and You are in control of my situation. Help me to trust You that You have authority over the storm, and be at peace. Amen.
