“Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy ...” - I Timothy 1: 13

Paul uses three very harsh words to describe himself.
First, he calls himself a “blasphemer.” It means someone who speaks evil about the one true God. Of all forms of sin, blasphemy which is talking against God, is the worst. Paul hated Jesus and those who followed Him.
Secondly, he calls himself a “persecutor.” It means someone who physically and verbally causes harm. Paul hated Christians so much that he went from one city to another to beat them, imprison them and torture them. He also participated in the murder of Stephen, the first Christian martyr.
Thirdly, Paul calls himself a “violent man,” which means a man who inflicts great physical harm – a man who has uncontrolled temper. Paul considers himself as the “worst” of all sinners. If anyone deserves to be punished, he says, it is he. “But for that very reason,” he explains, “I was shown mercy, so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe in Him and receive eternal life.”
Dear friends, are you in the verge of giving up, having not seen any kind of improvement in the character, behavior and attitude of a person for whom you have been praying for years? Don’t give up! Think of God’s unlimited patience, His tenderness, His love, and His mercy. As the rising sun comes to us, so is God’s mercy sure to come on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death – to guide their feet in the path of peace. (Luke 1:78-79) He deals with the sinner softly, gently, quietly and tenderly. He is a gentle Shepherd, who gathers the lost sheep in His arms and leads it to safety. So, wait in hope for the salvation of your beloved one. It will happen surely and will not tarry! Amen.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, how merciful You were to Paul who was a blasphemer, a persecutor and changed him to a great apostle. I am sure You will display Your tender mercy and save the lost soul for which I’ve been praying so long. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.Honey Drops || Daily Devotion
