Thursday, May 01 || FAITH MUST OBEY GOD IMPLICITLY

Read : Joshua 6: 15-20

“... at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed. ...” - Joshua 6: 20

This incredible event is recorded in Hebrews 11:30. “By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days.” Whose faith is referred to here? It is that of all the Israelites - Joshua, the leaders and the people. The absolute and unquestioning obedience and faith of Joshua and the people led to this moment of great triumph. The people of Israel manifested faith in God’s promise and obeyed His unusual command. Faith that pleases God is faith that obeys God, and believes it will be rewarded by God. Notice the little word “after” in Hebrews 11:30! What would have happened had they shouted after walking around Jericho one time or six times? Absolutely nothing! Because partial obedience is always disobedience. Spurgeon said, “Believing and obeying always run side by side. Faith and obedience are bound up in the same bundle.” He who obeys God trusts God, and he who trusts God obeys God. The people of Israel obeyed and so they experienced the blessings associated with obedience as God carried out the “divine demolition!”

Dear friends, God wants total, whole-hearted commitment from us, not 99%. Perhaps we are not experiencing the blessings God has promised to us. Let us examine ourselves - Could it be because we have only walked around our impregnable Jericho only six times? Have we exhibited only partial obedience? The lesson from Jericho is simply this - learn to go God’s way! Not fighting or revolting against God’s authority.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, faith and obedience to Your Word will result in crumbling down of any insurmountable obstacle, however enormous it is.  Help me to put my faith in You and Your way.  When I obey, You will perform great and mighty things, and grant me victory.  Amen.
