“ Commit your way to the Lord. ...” - Psalm 37: 5
The Hebrew word for “commit” is galal, meaning “to roll down on.” The Greek equivalent of this word “commit” is prasso. It means “to carry into action deliberately.” It is an act of our will, not of our emotions. It means that we turn over our problems to the Lord, in absolute surrender. “Commit” really means a total letting go of our control over the issue. Instead of praying, “Lord, You take this problem from me,” we need to pray, “Lord, I release this problem to You.” There is a big difference between these two attitudes.
When we pray about something to God, our tendency is to tell Him how He needs to take care of it. That is not really committing or letting go. It is often just a way of trying to get Him to do what we want Him to do. Committing literally means we give up our control, our options, and submit the end result to God. Betty Southard writes, “To do this, I have found it helpful to name specifically my problems - fear, worry, or anxiety. Then I visualize my problem lying in my hands, and as I lift it up before the Lord, I purposely turn my hands down, palms open, holding nothing back.”
Dear friends, what problem do you need to commit to the Lord today? Take that overwhelming problem and by a deliberate act of will, release that problem to the Lord. Be assured that it is His problem to solve, not yours, and you will be amazed to see the marvelous deeds of the Lord in your life.Dear Lord, when something pressurizes my heart and whenever I am faced with a crisis, let me let go of my control of it totally and release it to You in absolute confidence. You are in control of my life, and so let me submit to Your will and rest peacefully. In Jesus name. Amen.
