Thursday, July 10 || GOD’S GRACE IS GREATER THAN ALL OUR SINS

Read : Romans 8: 18-21

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” - Romans 3: 23

The Bible describes sin as transgression, as rebellion against God’s Sovereign authority, despising of His Word and His person, and even defiance of God himself. It is no wonder Paul wrote that because of our sin, we were by nature objects of God’s wrath. (Ephesians 2:3) We would like to think that, as believers, such descriptions of sin no longer apply to us. We look at the gross sins of the society around us, and we tend to define sin in terms of those actions. We fail to see that our anxiety, our discontentment, our ingratitude toward God, our pride and selfishness, our critical and judgmental attitudes toward others, our gossip, our unkind words and other such “small” sins are against God and despising of His Word.

But there is a great news for us in Romans 5:20. “But where sin abounded, God’s grace abounded much more.” We might have expected that where sin abounded, God’s anger or judgment would have abounded much more. But God’s love is so amazing that grace abounded much more where we might have expected wrath.

Martin Lloyd Jones writes, “God’s grace overflows, as if a mighty flood were let loose, sweeping everything before it.” 

Spurgeon writes, “Sin may be a river, but grace is an ocean.  
Sin may be a mountain, but grace is like Noah’s flood which prevailed so high over the tops of the mountains upward.”  

Dear friends, this does not mean that God tolerates sin.  God hates sin.  And He will continually work to remove it and give us victory over it.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, sometimes I feel that I was saved in the past and was a good Christian, but now, because I have sinned I am condemned to be only a worse Christian forever. Thank You for showing me that my sin does not keep Your abounding grace from flowing to me in full measure. Amen.
