All of us, irrespective of our age, sometimes let the past silently steal away our present. Mistakes of the past and memories of our own shameful behavior can hinder us from moving forward. They can easily stop us from enjoying the full, fresh life that God gives us every morning. Regret over the past can cripple our hope for the future. Alexander Graham Bell once said, "When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us."

Dear friends, today God wants to encourage us - Remember He is the only One who is powerful enough to liberate us from the slavery of the past and wipe out our regrets without a trace. In Joel chapter 2, the Lord says, "I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten." Our God is a God who not only promises to wash away the sins of our past, but also who promises a new beginning - a fresh chance to catch up on those long wasted years that we spent away from His presence. The devil may have stolen the precious years of your youth, but the good news is that God is directing you towards a new hope! Living the past is a dull and lonely business, but praise God, we don't have to live there anymore. With God's strength, we can move forward. We are overcomers! The next time you see the "deadly arrow of past regrets" being hurled at you by the devil, ask God to help you use the shield of His Word to stop it mid-strike by quoting the promises in the Scriptures. Do not let the past hold you victim any longer. The liberating power of Christ is yours today!

PRAYER: Lord, thank you for showing me that I do not need to live in the shadows of regret, shame and guilt from my past life. Help me trust in the power of your forgiveness. Help me defeat the devil when he tries to bring guilty thoughts. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
