“God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in all good work.” - II Corinthians 9: 8
In II Corinthians 9: 8, we note the word “all” is repeated 4 times - all grace, all things, all times, all that you need. Humanly speaking, the person who gives should be the person who loses, but that is not the case according to the Bible. It is more blessed to give than to receive, and when we do, whatever measure that we use, it will be measured back to us. This does not mean that we bargain with God or look at giving as a means of purchasing God’s blessings! Rather, we should look at giving as a way to show our love toward God and our trust in His Word. In II Corinthians 9:6, Paul observed that the person who sowed sparingly will reap a meager harvest, but he who sows bountifully will reap bountifully. When a farmer sows in his field, it looks like he is throwing the seeds away. It seems to be lost, but it is not really gone. In due time he gets it back - in abundant measure. So it is in Christian giving - it is not a question of receiving back what one has given to the Lord, but receiving back far out of proportion to the amount that was given. Lowery says, “Christians are rewarded in three ways for their generosity: first, the givers are enriched, second, the receivers’ needs are met and third, God, the source of all blessing is praised.
Dear friends, the rule of the natural man is “Get all you can,” but the rule of the spiritual man should be, “Give all you can.” Is it not true that the seed kept in the granary will mold and decay, but when “thrown away” into the ground it increases 30-60 and 100 fold? So let us not only be generous givers, but also cheerful givers, willingly giving when opportunity arises.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, all that You have given me is Yours. Let me not hoard for myself the blessings You have graciously given me. Let me sow generously so that I would reap bountifully. Thank you for affirming that Your grace abounds when I continue in generosity. Amen.
