Verse: "They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green." (Psalm 92:14)

John Glenn became an American hero in 1962 with his historic manned, orbital flight around the earth. And he became a United States Senator at the ripe old age of 78. At an age when some people simply await a call from above, John Glenn went back into space. It was just amazing to see him be a part of the crew of the Shuttle Discovery blasting into space with crewmen half of his age! What a hero! That is the kind of warrior Caleb was. (Joshua 14:10-12) At the age of 40, he had been one of the twelve spies sent by Moses to visit the Promised Land. Ten of those spies returned with the bad news that it would be unwise to go against those giants and those walled cities, but Caleb and Joshua stood alone, encouraging God's people to claim God's promises and take the land. Then, four decades later when the Israelites possessed the land, we would all expect Caleb, an 85 year old man, to take a peaceful retirement. Isn't it? But see what he told Joshua, "... I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; ... Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. The Lord helping me, I will drive the Anakites - the giants out." Caleb could have said easily, "Well, I've fought my battles and now it's my time to rest." But Caleb said, "Give me that mountain. I've still got to fight my battle!"

Dear friends, let us be inspired by John Glenn and Caleb. Let us go out doing things for God. No matter how old we are, what our limitations are, the Lord can still touch and transform many lives through us. This is not the time for self-pity. There is still too much to do for Jesus. So let us keep on working for Him till we meet Him on the other shore.

Prayer : Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing to me that there is no retirement age for doing Your ministry. Let me keep working for You in spite of my weakness and my old age. I believe that You will empower me, and help me because it is Your battle and the victory is Yours. Amen.
