Sunday, March 01 || PUT YOUR FAITH IN GOD WHO DOES MARVELOUS THINGS

“... Nothing will be impossible for you.” - Matthew 17: 20

In today’s text, we read that Jesus’ disciples were unable to cast out a demon from a young boy, even though Jesus had previously given them the authority to do this very thing. (Matthew 10:1) When they asked Jesus why they were not able to drive it out, the Master replied, “Because you have so little faith. If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move.” By using the common mustard seed as an example, Jesus was speaking figuratively about the incalculable power of God in the lives of those with true faith. We know that this statement about moving mountains by faith is not to be taken literally. In the Bible, mountains are used to symbolize barriers and hindrances. A mountain is anything that threatens to halt or hinder our progress in spiritual journey. Jesus is telling here that if we can believe, there is nothing that can keep us from doing what He has commanded us to do.

Dear friends, what mountains do we face today? Are they mountains of heartache, of debt, of despair or satanic opposition? To the father of the demon-possessed boy, Jesus said, “All things are possible to him who believes.” (Mark 9: 23) Isn’t this an amazing promise given to us? Let us be encouraged, whatever obstacle stands between us and the will of God can be uprooted by the command of faith. But let us be careful not to put our faith in the size or strength or amount of our own faith; instead, we need to put it in God and His Word. That is the way to grow a strong, vibrant, living, and enduring faith.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, when mountains stand before me high and huge, threatening and halting my progress, let me put my faith in You. My faith may be as tiny as a mustard seed, but when it is true faith based on Your Word, it will surely dissolve any insurmountable difficulty. Amen.
