“ Haughty eyes and a proud heart ... are sin ” - Proverbs 21:4

We can experience revival and God’s glory only if we are humble. We should become nothing so that Jesus would become everything. Why do we say that humility is important?

First, it is a natural response that comes to any believer when he has the knowledge of holiness of God. A young Christian leader said: ‘’Humility becomes my natural state only as I recognise who God really is! The holiest saint will be the humblest!’’

Second, humility is the most exemplary characteristic of the nature and essence of Jesus. Though He was the Son of God, He emptied Himself and became a man. He humbled Himself to the point of death, even death upon the Cross. The King of glory became the servant of men!

Third, when the believers humble themselves under the mighty hand of God, it results in dynamic growth of the church - both spiritually and numerically.

Humility is the first biblical condition for revival as mentioned in II Chronicles 7:14. The religious leaders during the time of Jesus attempted to impress people with their public prayers, fasting and way of dressing. But the Lord did not talk about such humility here, but the true humility which comes from the heart.

Dear friends, the more we get to know God, the more we are broken from pride and self-centeredness.  The world may ridicule our humility and call it foolishness since it is not the world’s character.  Pride is the banner of the world. But, as children of God let us exalt God and humble ourselves before Him and before men.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to realise that revival is costly but it is worth it. Let me destroy my pride. Let Jesus be my model, who though is God’s Son, humbled Himself as a servant and washed His disciples’ feet. Let my humility and brokenness be the seeds for revival. Amen.
