“... Put this money to work,” he said, until I come back.” - Luke 19: 13
In this parable, we read that a nobleman went to a distant land, and before leaving he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. “Put this money to work until I come back,” he told them. In other words, he said, “Do business, stay busy.” This means “produce good results through great effort and energy.” The nobleman was commanding his servants to not only stay busy, but gave them what they needed to accomplish tasks while he was absent. He expected productivity. When he returned and asked for an account, he gave the commendation, “Well done!” to all those who had done what they could with the money entrusted to them. But he called “wicked” the one who did nothing with the money.
Dear friends, the primary meaning of this parable is stewardship of what we have been given. Each of us has something that God has given - a “pound,” which He has entrusted to us. Our life itself, with all its powers, its opportunities, its privileges, its blessings - is “our pound.” Most importantly, each of us has been entrusted with the gospel. Till the Lord comes, we are to stay busy serving Him, proclaiming His Word and accomplishing His will in our lives. If we spiritually fall down, lose some spiritual battles in our lives, we need to get back and go forward. So let us not give up, nor be lazy, but be faithful with what was given to us, and give Him our best in return.PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, You have given me life to live and have blessed me with talents and opportunities. Help me to make the best use of these to serve You. Let me get on with Your business. I do not know when You will return, so let me give You the best in return. Amen.
