‘’Babies are born only after travail. Revivals are birthed by spiritual giants, not slick talkers and golfing evangelists,” writes Leonard Ravenhill. Wherever there is travailing prayer, with tears and groaning, there is sure to be a Spirit-born revival. George Whitefield’s messages were prepared prayerfully in his closet with a burdened heart and tear-filled eyes, and when he preached such Spirit-filled messages from the pulpit, the hearts of people were melted and they gave their lives to Jesus. His one goal was winning souls. He was called as “The Awakener,” and “The Fire Bringer.” When Whitefield preached in America in June 1742, large crowds gathered in the afternoon and stayed till late night. He describes the event, “Such a commotion was surely never heard of, especially around 11 O’ clock at night. For an hour and a half there was such weeping, so many falling into deep distress and manifesting it in various ways that description is impossible.” On one Sunday afternoon, thirty thousand assembled to hear Whitefield preach. Seventeen hundred took the sacrament which was administered in two tents with ten ministers officiating! It is worth mentioning that during those days, the only way to reach a meeting was on foot. There were no tar roads, no restaurants, buses and trains were not known. Yet, such was the magnetism of a Spirit-filled man that such a large number of people were drawn to Christ through him.

Dear  friends, the reason we do not have such earth-shaking revivals is that we are content to live without them.  Revival can only occur at a great cost. Ineffective preaching is because of insufficient praying.  Let us pray with tears that the Lord should raise up many spiritual giants and save the multitudes of dying souls.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I come to Your presence with burden for people who are dying spiritually. Lord, send a great revival and save them. Raise up many Spirit-filled preachers and spiritual giants with integrity, compassion and commitment who would serve You and the people. Amen.
