Step Out In Obedience And Possess God's Blessings
Friday, July 10 Read: Joshua 1: 1-5
Verse: "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates." - Genesis 15: 18
As He had promised to Abraham, the Lord gave a huge land to Israelites (Genesis 15:18) - 300,000 square miles of land. But the most they ever claimed was only 30,000 square miles! Because of their disobedience, the Israelites took only one-tenth of what God had given them. The Bible says that the largest portion of the promised land which Israel possessed was during the wise and godly leadership of David. Sadly, his son Solomon failed in his God-given responsibility. His heart was divided between the Lord and idols, and so the Lord ultimately divided his kingdom.
Dear friends, here is the application question for all of us. God has promised us, believers, a "huge spiritual life." Paul says in Ephesians 1:3 that the Father "has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." Let us think about our life as believers. How much of this incredible gift of abundant life in Christ have we possessed? Is our Christian walk like David's? Or have we repeatedly disobeyed God's clear commands and thus failed to possess all of the abundant life promised to us in Christ? If the latter is the case, it is not too late to step out in faith and obedience. David's obedience was not perfect, and yet God allowed him to possess much of the promised land. While our obedience can never be perfect, we can resolve, enabled by God's Spirit to henceforth walk in such a manner worthy of the Lord, so that every place the sole of our feet treads, we will possess the abundant life in Christ. Let us pray, teach me Your way, O Lord, and I will walk in Your truth. Give me an undivided heart, that I will fear Your name. (Psalm 86:11)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I too am like Israel in that I am blessed with all spiritual blessings and yet live pathetically without claiming them as my own. My heart has too often been divided like Solomon's. Let me have an undivided heart that I will fear Your name and walk in obedience to Your Word. Amen
