Read : Isaiah 35: 1-4
"Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear." - Isaiah 35: 3,4
Here, Isaiah addressed the ten Northern Tribes of Israel who were taken into captivity in Assyria in 722 BC. These Jews were downcast and felt hopeless. Isaiah encouraged them that the Lord will come and avenge all injustice done to them. They were threatened by their enemies. They had seemingly no prospect of ever living in their own land in peace. They were discouraged and despondent, ready to give up. So Isaiah reminded them of the coming kingdom of God, when “the wilderness will rejoice and blossom,” and “they will see the glory of the Lord, the splendour of our God.” (Isaiah 35: 1,2) Then Isaiah counseled them, “Encourage the exhausted and strengthen the feeble.” In other words, Isaiah told them, “Do not give up now. A better day is coming. Look to that and you will have the encouragement and strength you need. Victory is ahead.”
Dear friends, we may find ourselves in circumstances where we are exhausted and feeble. The amazing thing we need to note here is, we are not asked to strengthen OUR hands or OUR feeble knees, but the hands and feet of those who are weak. In other words, we are not to concentrate on our own weaknesses, but help strengthen other Christians in theirs. Let us remember, that one of the surest ways to be encouraged ourselves is to encourage someone else who is in pain and suffering. Speaking forth the marvelous truth of the grace, power and deliverance will not only encourage them but us too. Let us do to others what we would have them do to us. (Matthew 7: 12)
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I find myself in a challenging situation where I feel like giving up. I am weak at work and weak at praying. Thank You for Your Word today that has strengthened me that a better day is coming soon and victory is ahead. Let me not be engrossed in my suffering but encourage others who are weak saying these words. Amen.
